What do you feel are the “ideal body types” that the magazines portray for men and women? I feel that the ideal body types portrayed for men and women are unattainable and it makes people feel pressured into looking a certain way. It’s very bad to lie to the public as it makes them feel bad.

What is your definition of “perfection”?My definition of perfection is however you are happy is perfect.
Has there ever been something about your body or features that you wanted to alter? Why? (you do not have to be specific.) Yes, because you feel as though you can’t measure up to what the media says you should look like.
Have your thoughts on celebrities changed? Are they as “perfect” as you think they are?My thoughts on celebrities has changed alot. I lost some respect for some of the celebrities because they changed how they look just so they don’t look like regular everyday people.
Have your thoughts on Photoshop changed? I now realize the total power that Photoshop has in our everyday lives whether we realize it or not.

What Does SMHS Mean to Me

I choose the design because my favorite thing to do is play baseball. Baseball is the main reason I came to St. Mary and is one of the most important things in my life. I also choose the baseball design because i felt it looked cool in the middle of the Saint Mary logo. Saint Mary has certainly changed my life and coming to Saint Mary is the best decision I ever made.

The baseball design symbolizes my passion for baseball. Not only does it symbolize my love for baseball but my love for Saint Mary as well. When I think of Saint Mary the only thing i think about is baseball and all the fun that I have here. This is definitely the best high school in New Jersey and it gives me an opprotunity to play the sport that I love at a very high level.

Current Events: Swine Flu

In the U.S. the Swine Flu epidemic continues to spread. It is said that there are as many as 154 cases woldwide and six additional cases in Spain. The biggest concern is that the Flu is spreading in some areas from person to person within a community and may lead to raising the the pandemic phase to phase six which is the highest level. If this continues it could mean big trouble for the world.

Currently “the WHO’s breakdown of confirmed cases is: United States, 91, including one death; Mexico, 26, seven deaths; Canada, 13; Spain, 10; United Kingdom, five; Germany, three; New Zealand, three; Israel, two; Austria, one.” There could also be as many as 11cases in New England, 2 in France, 1 in South Korea and 1 in Switzerland. The first confirmed Swine Flu death in the U.S. was a toddler who’s family was from Mexico. Health officials have warned that the toddler’s death would probably not be the last in the United States.

The definition of possible Swine Flu cases are people are people who tst positive for Influenza A. Though further test would be needed to verify the Swine Flu virus. Countries are now trying vigorously to find a vaccine for the virus though none have been found yet. there has been a shutdown of 35,000 public venues in Mexico thus far and it will last until tuesday.

“Mexican health officials suspect the swine flu may have killed more than 150 and infected roughly 2,500.” Swine Flu is a repiraory disease whose symptoms are fever, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. It is a combination of Swine, Avian and Human strains. There is no vaccaine yet for it.

In the U.S. the Swine Flu has caused over 74 schools to close at least temporarily. Countries like Cuba and Ecuador have banned travel to and from Mexico. Though the disease is not spread through eating pork some countries have stopped imports of pork from U.s. and Mexico. This pandemic is sweeping the nation and is very troublesome though I believe we will find a cure.

Current Events: Italy Earthquake

In Italy an earthquake has left at least 207 people dead and still some 15 others missing in the rubble. As many as 1,500 have been injured and 50,000 are without shelter. Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has promised to build a new town in order to house the thousands of people who have ben left homeless by the deadly earthquake. Rescuers are continuing to pull people from the rubble left in the wake of the earthquake.

Officials are urging residents and victims not to return home as the aftershocks continue. Thousands of people have sought shelter in tents. Others have and will be sleeping in cars or at relatives homes. Survivors have been watching rescue workers as they work round the clock to help to rescue victims.

A special fund has been set up to raise money for the victims and the families of victims. the government is focused on helping out the victims and their families. The prime minister said that the victims can book a place in the new town. The government is going to set up a special fund in banks to allow for low-cost mortgages for homebuyers in the new town he said.

There are 4,000 people working to rescue the victims and survivors of the earthquake. Civil officials are ready to hous up to as many as 30,000 victims but many of the people are going to hotels instead of going to the housing option. According to surveyors the earthquake went as deep as 6.2 miles underground.

This earth quake was th deadliest earthquake in years in Italy and the first major earthquake in any country in the last seven years. Sadly the most seriously hurt victims had to be evacuated from the hospital they were in because it was too unsafe for them to remain in their. The earthquake has been called “a disaster on a huge scale.”

The Perfect Game

It was the sixth inning of a 1-0 ballgame in favor of the home team. The day was cloudy and seemed like there was a chance of rain but if so only a drizzle. The home team was in the field when the away teams best hitter stepped to the plate with a runner on first and nobody out. First pitch of the at-bat and CRACK! A line drive into the gap certain to be a double. The runner on first wanted to try to score but he was held up at third by the third base coach. That move proved to be the worst move of the year. All of a sudden a light drizzle started to fall and the home team manager came out to talk his star pitcher. He was out there for about three minutes talking to him when he came back in to talk to the umpires . It was then that the umpire signaled for a rain delay which by the weather conditions seemed to be absurd. The away team manager came out to argue with the home team manager and the umpires. They argued for about five minutes straight when all of a sudden the head umpire announced that the game was being postponed due to in climate weather. That meant that the home team wins because they played five full innings. The assistant coach said to the head coach “ that was our best game ever”. The head coach replied” yeah and it only cost us $100”

Public Speaking

1. What is public speaking? Public speaking is giving a speech to a group of people on a certain topic.

2. Why do people give speeches? People give speeches in order to educate others.

3. How would you describe the best method for public speaking? To just relax and not work your self up. Stay calm.

4. Can you select two people (famous or in your life) that captivate you when they speak? My baseball coaches always get my full attention when they speak.

5. How would you compare an experienced speaker to an inexperienced speaker? Inexperienced would probably be nervous while the experienced would be calm, cool and collected.

6. What is the main idea of speaking loud? Make sure that everybody can hear you loud and clear.

7. When someone is speaking publicaly, do you think it better to say “Um”, “like” or to pause in your speech? You should definitely pause instead.

8. If you were to stand in front of the room right now to rely information on something you are very passionate about, what main elements would you be focusing on? I would focus on being loud and interactive with the audience instead of boring.

9. If you were sitting and watching a lecture, what are things that the speaker can do that holds your attention? Just being interactive and fun to listen to.

10. Is there a relationship between the speaker and the audience? Yes and depending on the speakers qualities it could be good or bad.

11. How does this relationship develop? By the speaker being loud and clear and easy to listen to. you also need to be able to connect with the speaker.

12. If you had to pick one topic to talk about to your classmates, what would it be on? Baseball because thats what i know best.

One day I was walking down the street and I saw what looked to be a hat. I went over to see exactly what it was that was laying on the ground and indeed it was a hat. As a matter of fact it was a Bugs Bunny hat. I thought that this was so weird so I picked it up and started to walk again. Eventually I decided to just put the hat on and when I did I felt a very weird feeling. All of a sudden I got sucked into a heart shaped box lying on the ground and when i went through the box I was in a different place. It was like a cartoon. When I was in this cartoon place I decided that I might as well walk around so I walked along the path and as I was walking I came across this giant tree. When I saw the size of it I had to stop and look at it. As i was looking at it I noticed that I was getting a bit tired so i decided to sit down on the side of the tree. As I sat down I heard a voice scream” Get off of Me”! I knew it was the tree so i took off running down the path but eventually came to a giant wall. the thing that made this wall so different was that it never ended so I used my magical jumping power to jump over the wall and just like that I was back on planet earth.

Mysterious Man

3. As I am walking down Main street, I see a mysterious, smiling old man with a Saint Mary hat on. I continued to walk on my path and happen to glance in his direction again for I felt that maybe I knew him. In the matter of second, he is across the street. Bewildered by this, I did a double take and the man is gone. I kept walking trying to think of what just happened and refocus on the path in front of me. As my eyes meet his, I knew there was something magical about this man. I thought to myself , “How could he ever move that fast, and now he is standing in front of me?” Without him saying a word, he takes off his hat and gives me the hat. I was both shocked and confused. He gave me a hat that looked alot like my baseball hat. As I looked on the inside of the hat I saw the number five on the inside and my name. This got my mind racing.
How did this man get my hat? I looked back real quick to ask him where he got it from but he had disappeared. I decided than to just keep walking to Tamblyn Field and never speak of this again. That day I had a baseball game and went 4-4 with a Home Run and Three RBI’s. What great luck I had that day and I believe it was all because of the mysterious old man.
